I made Sudoku with Mahjong tiles

Mahjong Sudoku Classic came from my own love of Sudoku: I wanted to keep the single-solution logic, but make the board feel more visual, more playful, and more connected to Mahjong.

The idea

I have always been a Sudoku fan. I like the way a good puzzle slowly opens up: one single-solution board, a few obvious moves, then harder moments where you have to really think.

But when every cell is just a number from 1 to 9, some puzzles can start to feel visually dry, especially when the solution gets difficult. I started wondering: what if the numbers were represented by Chinese Mahjong tiles instead?

That idea felt interesting for two reasons. It could make the puzzle more visually challenging, and it could connect two groups of players: people who enjoy Mahjong tiles and people who like brainy logic games like Sudoku.

How it plays

The rules are still classic Sudoku. You solve each row, column, and 3x3 area using one of each tile from 1 to 9. The difference is that the board can use Mahjong-style suits such as dots, bamboo, or characters.

So the puzzle is still logical and familiar, but the experience changes. Instead of only reading digits, you are reading tile identity, suit, and pattern.

Why I built it

I built Mahjong Sudoku Classic because I thought this combination was a simple but strong idea. Sudoku already gives you the thinking challenge. Mahjong tiles add a cultural and visual layer that makes the same logic feel different.

It is not meant to be noisy or complicated. It is a calm puzzle game for people who like solving, recognizing patterns, and taking a familiar rule set into a slightly different world.

What I want feedback on

I am especially interested in feedback from puzzle players:
